Open Heavens 28 October 2025 Tuesday – The Light
MEMORISE: Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Matthew 5:15
READ: Matthew 18:23-35 Open Heavens 28 October 2025
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother their trespasses.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 16-18

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 28 October 2025 Tuesday Daily Devotional
Every true child of God is a shining light. You are the light of the world, and Matthew 5:16 says, โLet your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.โ Light has one clear duty: shining. This means that anything that stops light from shining is its enemy. As a child of God, anything that stops you from shining is your enemy, and you must deal with it.
Anything that allows darkness to gain the upper hand over light in a believerโs life is an enemy. In todayโs memory verse, Jesus identified an object that can keep our light from shining and allow darkness to rule over light โ a bushel. A bushel is typically a wooden bucket that was used for measuring dry goods such as peas or grains in the past. If someone lights a lamp in a dark room and puts it under a bushel, it will be impossible to tell that there is light anywhere in that room.
One of the most dangerous bushels that has hidden the light of many believers is unforgiveness. The dangerous thing about unforgiveness is that it comes as just one bushel, but it multiplies itself into many other bushels that cover a believerโs light and keep it from shining. Unforgiveness always comes with bitterness, grudges, anger, and resentment. When someone offends you and you decide not to forgive the person, before long, you will find yourself resenting the person and refusing to speak amicably with him or her. Unforgiveness also hinders prayers from getting answered.
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. Mark 11:25-26
Beloved, donโt toy with unforgiveness; it hides a personโs light and plunges the unforgiving person into darkness. When Jesus told the parable of the unforgiving servant in todayโs Bible reading, He revealed the end of those who do not forgive โ they are handed over to tormentors.
Have you been hiding your light under the bushel of unforgiveness? It is time to kick it away and let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). I pray that God will be glorified through your words and actions, in Jesusโ name.
Key Point – Open Heavens 28 October 2025
Unforgiveness is dangerous; donโt let it dim your light.
Open Heavens 28 October 2025 Tuesday Hymn
Hymn 59: I Want to Be Like Jesus
1 I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek;
For no one marked an angry word
That ever heard him speak.
Refrain:
I want to be like Jesus,
God’s well beloved Son;
I want to be like Jesus,
The pure and holy One.
2 I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain top,
He met his Father there. [Refrain]
3 I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good,
So that of me it may be said,
He hath done what he could. [Refrain]
4 Alas! I’m not like Jesus,
As any one may see;
Thy gentle Spirit, Savior, send,
And make me like to thee. [Refrain]
Open Heavens 28 October 2025 Tuesday Commentary
Praise the Lord.
Our topic for today once more says shine the light. And in the body of today’s devotional, our father in the Lord says that every true child of God is a shining light. You are the light of the world. And Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven.” Light has one clear duty, shining. This means that anything that stops light from shining is its enemy. As a child of God, anything that stops you from shining is your enemy and you must deal with it. Anything that allows darkness to gain the upper hand over light in a believer’s life is an enemy.
In today’s memory verse, Jesus identifies an object that can keep our light from shining and allow darkness to rule over light. A bushell. A bushell is typically a wooden bucket that was used for measuring dry goods. such as peas or grains. In the past, if someone lights a lamp in a dark room and puts it under a bushell, it will be impossible to tell that there is light anywhere in that room. One of the most dangerous bushels that has hidden the light of many believers is unforgiveness. The dangerous thing about unforgiveness is that it comes as just one bushell, but it multiplies itself into many other bushels that cover a believer’s light and keep it from shining. Unforgiveness always comes with bitterness, grudges, anger, and resentment. When someone offends you and you decide not to forgive the person, before long you will find yourself resenting the person and refusing to speak amicably with him or her.
Unforgiveness also hinders prayers from getting answered. Mark 11:25-26 reads, “And when ye stand praying, forgive if ye have ought against any, that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Beloved, don’t toy with unforgiveness. It hides a person’s light and plunges the unforgiving person into darkness. When Jesus told the parable of the unforgiving servant in today’s Bible reading, he revealed the end of those who do not forgive. They are handed over to tormentors. Have you been hiding your light under the bushell of unforgiveness? It is time to kick it away and let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven. Matthew 5:16. I pray that God will be glorified through your words and actions in Jesus’ name. And we say a mighty amen. God bless his word to us today. Hallelujah.
Our topic for today once more says shine the light. Today’s study tells us expressly that every child of God carries a divine light within. The moment you give your life to Christ; God placed in you his very nature. The light that shines in darkness. Jesus declared in Matthew 5:14 that ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Light was not made to be hidden. It was made to shine. If your light is not radiating God’s glory, then something is covering your light. And until that covering is removed, your potential in Christ will remain buried. The sad reality is that many believers, though filled with the spirit of God are not shining. They have allowed bushels which have become weights of the heart and hindrances of the soul to cover their brightness. Today’s message calls us to identify and remove every of those bushels that has deemed our light so that the world may glorify our father through us. When God created light in Genesis 1:3, he didn’t tell it how to shine. The reason is because shining was natural to its nature. It is the same way when Christ saves a soul. We don’t necessarily have to be taught how to shine. It should come naturally. Supposing we remain uncovered, refusing to let any bushell cover our light. Recall Joseph in prison. He is a bright example of divine light. Even when he was in prison, his light could not be hid. Always something different about him. Even Pharaoh recognized it. He saw the wisdom of God in Joseph. That is what happens when God’s light finds expression in a believer’s life. Favor and recognition follows naturally.
So beloved, you were not saved to blend with the world, but to stand out and to be different. You were not called to conform, but to transform your environment with the light of Christ that you shine. In today’s study, our Lord Jesus Christ talked about bushells. Jesus warned that no one lights a candle and puts it under a bushell. And we know what a bushell is. It represents anything that covers or limits the expression of the divine light in us. And we see from today’s study that one of the greatest bushels among believers is unforgiveness.
Beloved, an unforgiving Christian is like a covered lamp. He still burning but is unseen. The light that he or she is expected to shine is not felt. While we consider unforgiveness today as one of the major bushells, it is also very important for us to have at the back of our minds that there are still many more. For example, fear. Fear is another bushell. It paralyzes the believer’s confidence in God and keeps them from stepping out in faith. How about compromise? That is another dangerous bushell. When you let yourself and your standards to be influenced, when you let the world influence you instead of you influencing it.
So beloved, examine your heart today. What is that bush shell that has covered your light? Is it unforgiveness? Is it fear? Is it compromise? Or is it even pride or secret sin? You cannot shine the light of God freely while holding on to what God wants you to release. You cannot shine his light when you have a bushell covering that light. Today’s study also reveals to us that there are consequences for hiding our light. When a believer’s light is covered, two things happen. First, the believer loses spiritual influence. Just as salt without servo becomes useless, light under a cover serves no purpose. the people around you cannot find direction if your light is dim or covered. Secondly, hidden light eventually fades. As we know very well, burning light often needs oxygen. So, if you hide your burning candle under a bushell, the flame will soon suffocate. It will soon go out. Many believers start with zeal, but offense, bitterness soon chokes out their fire. Our Lord Jesus warned us that any branch that does not bear fruit will be cut off. In the same way, light that refuses to shine is in danger of going out completely. Hallelujah.
Today’s study also reveals to us the power of forgiveness. That it is the key to uncovering our light. It is important for us to note as believers that forgiveness is not weakness. Instead, forgiveness is strength. So do not fall for the lie of the enemy. If our Lord Jesus could forgive those who crucified him, then no offense against us is too great to be forgiven. One other thing we learned from today’s study is that as we shine our light, the world sees our light and glorifies our father who is in heaven. That light that God has placed within you is not for decoration. It is for illumination. When people see your patience, when they see your kindness, when they see your love, when they see your forgiveness, they would be catching a glimpse of our Lord Jesus Christ, they would be seeing him in you. Every time you reflect Christ’s character, you make God visible to your generation. Believers were first called Christians at Antioch because their lives were beginning to mirror that of Christ. So being a Christian is not just a title you get for going to church. The big question to us today is do we truly look like Christ? God wants the image of every believer to be that of the reflection of Christ. He wants our lives to radiate his glory so much that men will glorify our father in heaven.
Beloved be the reason why someone is attracted to God. Today I would like us at this point to bow our heads and appreciate the Lord. Say, “Father, thank you for making me the light of the world.” Say, “Father, I am grateful in the name of Jesus. Thank you for choosing me to be shining light in this dark world.” Receive my thanks, oh Lord, in the name of Jesus. Now ask the Lord today, say, “Lord, reveal and remove every bushell covering my light in the name of Jesus.” Whatever bushell it is, whether the bushell of unforgiveness, the bushell of fear that limits, or the bushell of pride, whatever has the capacity to limit the light you’d be shining through me, Father, I ask that you would uproot out of my life in the name of Jesus. Let every of those bushels be lifted and let my light shine forth in the name of Jesus. Also ask the Lord today say father give me the grace to forgive every offense known or unknown in the name of Jesus. Say father every offense that may come my way even before it comes grant me the grace lord to forgive in the name of Jesus.
Grant me the grace to not only forgive but to also forbear in the name of Jesus. Also ask the Lord today say Lord please restore my spiritual brightness and help me to reflect your glory daily in the name of Jesus. It is possible you know that you need the help of God. Probably your light used to shine brighter in previous times. Ask the Lord today say father restore my brightness. Or it is possible that you are not satisfied with how bright your light is shining. Say father grant me the grace to shine even brighter in the name of Jesus. Let me reflect your glory every day and everywhere I go. Let me move around demonstrating your glory to as many as come my way in the name of Jesus. Ask him that our lives would bring him honor and cause others to glorify his name in Jesus’ name. Let our lives be channels through which others would come to the saving knowledge of the Lord in the name of Jesus. Let our light so shine before men that they would see our good works and glorify our father which is in heaven. Begin to bless the name of the Lord and thank him for answers to prayers. Worship him. Give him thanks. Lord, we worship you. We honor you. Blessed be your name in Jesus’ name we have prayed. Amen.
