Open Heavens 4 January 2026 Sunday – Yield to His Spirit

MEMORISE: And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Genesis 1:2

READ: Romans 8:6-16Open Heavens 4 January 2026

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 13-17

Open Heavens 4 January 2026

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 4 January 2026 Sunday Daily Devotional

One of the things that happened in Genesis 1 was that God changed confusion to clarity. The Bible says that the earth was without form; however, after the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters, beauty and order came out of the formless earth.

Before God appeared in Genesis 1:2, the earth was dark and empty. Emptiness is not a good thing. If a student is said to be ’empty-headed’, for example, it implies that no matter how hard the student studies, he or she won’t be successful academically. After the Spirit of God intervened in Genesis 1:2, however, emptiness gave way to fullness.

You will discover that God called everything that followed immediately after that intervention ‘good’.

When the supernatural collides with the natural, the natural must give way. For example, in Judges 14:5-6, the Lion of the tribe of Judah easily overcame the physical lion that roared at Samson because the Spirit of God was upon him. Believe me, you cannot achieve anything meaningful this year with your natural abilities alone (John 15:5). However, if you yield to the Holy Spirit, you will have outstanding success in all areas of your life.

When you yield to the Spirit of God, He overshadows you. This means that He will be in control of your words, thoughts, and actions. When this happens, you will experience a supernatural change in your life, and you will come into a realm of endless possibilities.

Beloved, yield completely to the leading of the Holy Spirit this year. Spend quality time praying in the Holy Spirit daily and rely on His leading in all you do (Romans 8:14). If, however, you have not surrendered your life to Christ, you must do so before you can receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Confess your sins, promise God you will not return to them, and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. After you’ve done this, ask God to baptize you in the Holy Spirit and seek a genuine minister of God to pray with you so you can receive His baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues. You must also fast regularly if you want to subject your flesh to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Lastly, you must study the Bible diligently every day and obey all of God’s instructions. If you do all these, the Spirit of God will move mightily in your life, and everything that has been termed impossible will become possible.

Father, please overshadow me with Your precious Holy Spirit and make impossibilities become possible in my life, in Jesus’

Open Heavens 4 January 2026 Sunday Commentary

Praise the Lord.

Our topic for today once more says yield to his spirit. And in today’s study we see that the spirit of God is the cure for confusion for emptiness and disorder. We see from today’s study that in Genesis chapter 1, before anything beautiful appeared, before order emerged, before progress began, the Bible records a troubling situation. That darkness, emptiness, and confusion was the order of the day. Yet everything changed the moment the spirit of God moved. That same spirit of God that moved in the beginning and brought order where there was chaos is still active today. The Holy Spirit has not lost his power. He has not lost his relevance or ability to transform lives. If you desire clarity, if you desire fruitfulness and supernatural success this year, then you must understand the importance of yielding fully to him. Hallelujah.

Today’s study makes us understand that confusion is not God’s final intention for any life. The Bible tells us that the earth was without form. It means that it was chaotic, unstructured, it was disorganized. Nothing meaningful could come out of it until the spirit of God moved upon the waters. Confusion today may appear as uncertainty. It may appear as instability.  It may appear as a lack of direction or even repeated failure like a circle   despite many efforts. Many people today are busy but not productive. So many people today are active but are not fulfilled because the spirit of God has not yet   been given room to move in their lives. When the spirit of God enters into a situation like we saw it do in the beginning, clarity follows. direction becomes clear. Order replaces chaos. We also see in today’s study the danger of emptiness. Emptiness means lack of substance. It means lack of productivity and capacity. A life without the Holy Spirit may appear busy, educated or even successful outwardly but inwardly it would feel very empty.

This is why our Lord Jesus Christ said that without him we can do nothing. Not as though we cannot do anything at all. But without him we cannot   do anything with eternal value. Hallelujah. But when the spirit of God intervenes, emptiness gives way to fullness.   Purpose replaces aimlessness. When the spirit of God intervenes in any situation like he’s intervening in yours today, everything once known to be barren becomes productive. When the spirit of God intervenes, we also learned from today’s study that the supernatural will override the natural. I am sure you would agree with me that natural strength can never compete with supernatural power. When we check the life of Samson for example, we see that once upon a time he faced a physical lion. When he faced   that lion, the lion of the tribe of Judah within him arose. And that was why he was able to overshadow that physical lion. Many believers today struggle because they rely too heavily on intellect, on experience, on connections or effort. And while it is true that yes, these things have their place, they are not sufficient to produce outstanding results.

So beloved, this year your success must go beyond what human ability can explain. Only the Holy Spirit can take   you into realms where limitations disappear. And that is where you are heading to in Jesus’ name. Today’s study reveals to us that outstanding success requires dependence on the Holy Spirit. We are made to know that we cannot achieve anything that is   truly meaningful with natural ability alone. This is a spiritual reality. Our Lord Jesus Christ himself depended on the Holy Spirit during his earthly ministry. And if the son of God himself chose to operate by the spirit, how much more should we? We must always remember that those who rely on the Holy Spirit enjoy ease where others struggle. They experience results where others experience delay. So beloved, this year   dependence on the Holy Spirit will separate you from the crowd. Now, how can we begin our work of depending and yielding to the Holy Spirit? We learned from today’s study that we must first cultivate a prayer life. We must pray in the Holy Spirit daily. We learn also that fasting helps to subdue the flesh. So, we must learn to fast because a flesh dominated life cannot be spirit-led. We also learned the importance of studying our Bibles diligently. You would agree with me that the spirit of God often speaks in alignment with God’s word. So, you cannot hear him clearly if you neglect his word.

To yield to the Holy Spirit and to enjoy our partnership with him, we must also ensure to obey him promptly because delayed obedience grieves the spirit. Yielding to him means that we must respond quickly to his instructions. Beloved, remember that the Holy Spirit does not dwell in unsurrendered lives. If you are not yet born again, the first step is surrendering your life to Jesus Christ. Then after salvation, you must desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The things we have learned from today’s study are not optional for any Christian who wants to live   a victorious life.

Beloved, do not attempt to navigate through this year with your natural strength alone. Yield to the Holy Spirit completely. Let him order your steps. Let him guide your decisions. Let him empower your efforts. As you do so, confusion will give way to clarity. Emptiness would give way to fullness. And impossibilities   would give way to testimonies in your life in Jesus’ name. I would like us at this point to bow our heads and appreciate the Lord for the word we have heard. Say, “Father, thank you for speaking to us today. Thank you for teaching us your word. Thank you for ministering to our hearts. Receive our thanks in the name of Jesus.” Next, ask the Lord today.

Say, “Father, please overshadow me with your precious Holy Spirit and make impossibilities   become possible in my life in Jesus’ name.” Ask the Lord today. Say, “Father, let your spirit do a quick work in my heart, in my life. Let it overshadow me. And let everything that is termed impossible. Everything that I might have written off, everything that others may have seen in my life and concluded to be impossible become possible in the name of Jesus. Do that which only   you can do. Do that which would bring you glory. Do that which would bring you honor in my life in the name of Jesus.” Next, we’ll be asking the Lord today. We would say, “Father, let your spirit move mightily in my life this year in the name of Jesus.” Say, “Father, move in my life mightily. Move in my life like never before.” Declare and tell the spirit of the Lord today.

Say, “Have your way.” I open up to you. Take full control in the name of Jesus. Let it be obvious for all to see the mighty things you are doing in my life this year to your glory in the name of Jesus. Next, ask the Lord today. Say, Lord, remove every form of confusion and disorder from my life today in the name of Jesus. As your spirit takes over, let every form of confusion, let   every form of disorder give way today to clarity and direction in the name of Jesus. As you take over my life this year, let me enjoy purposefulness. Let me enjoy productivity. Let my life be filled with results to your   glory in the name of Jesus. Next, ask the Lord today.

Say, “Father, help me to depend on the Holy Spirit in all I do this year in Jesus’ name. Help me to depend on the Holy Spirit 100%. Help me to discard all forms of dependence on any other source. Help me to trust wholeheartedly in your spirit. Let me not depend on my efforts, on my intellect, on my strength, or my wisdom. Help me to depend on you and you alone. Be my teacher. Be my leader.   Be the one who instructs me. Be my help. I surrender to you, Holy Spirit. I depend on you 100%. Move in   my life and reveal yourself in the name of Jesus. Begin to bless the name of the Lord and thank him for answers to prayers. Father, we worship you. We adore you. Blessed be your name. In Jesus’ name we have prayed. Amen.

Open Heavens 4 January 2026 Sunday Hymn

Hymn 18: Praise To the Lord the Almighty

1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,

the King of creation!

O my soul, praise him, for he is

your health and salvation!

Come, all who hear;

now to his temple draw near,

join me in glad adoration.

2 Praise to the Lord, above

all things so wondrously reigning;

sheltering you under his wings,

and so gently sustaining!

Have you not seen all

that is needful has been

sent by his gracious ordaining?

3 Praise to the Lord, who will

prosper your work and defend you;

surely his goodness and mercy

shall daily attend you.

Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,

if with his love he befriends you.

4 Praise to the Lord! O let all

that is in me adore him!

All that has life and breath,

come now with praises before him.

Let the Amen sound

from his people again;

gladly forever adore him
