Open Heavens 5 January 2026 Monday – Let There Be Light

MEMORISE: And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Genesis 1:3

READ: Acts 3:1-8 Open Heavens 5 January 2026

1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

2 And a certain man lame from his motherโ€™s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

Bible In One Year: Genesis 18-20

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 5 January 2026 Monday Daily Devotional

When God said, โ€œLet there be lightโ€ in todayโ€™s memory verse, it simply meant that there was darkness before then, and at that moment, light was yet to come. โ€œLet there be lightโ€ signifies an end to sorrow and the beginning of joy.

In Psalm 30:5, the Bible says that sorrow may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Sorrow changes to joy when light comes. Likewise, confusion gives way to clarity at the entrance of light. If you are driving on a dark highway and suddenly, your car headlamps malfunction, you might find yourself in total darkness. In such cases, it is wise to quickly look for a safe space to park the vehicle because it is not safe to drive in total darkness. This is why darkness is associated with stagnation; there is usually no movement in an environment that is totally dark.

If whatever is wrong with the car is corrected, however, and the headlamps begin to work again, then you can continue your journey. Whenever there is light, there is usually progress. I pray that light will come into your life in this new year, and there will be an end to stagnation. This year, you will experience progress and joy, in Jesusโ€™ name.

In todayโ€™s Bible reading, we read about a man who was born lame. For many years, he was carried to the same spot daily so he could beg for alms. He had been stagnant all his life; however, when the Almighty God decided to visit him, not only did he start walking, he was jumping and praising God. Light shone on him because he had met Jesus through Peter and John, and he experienced a great turnaround.

When the light of God comes into your life, you will move forward and upwards. People normally sleep at night, and this is why Apostle Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 5:7 that those who sleep do so in the night. There is usually no movement when people are asleep.

However, when the day breaks, light comes, and people awake from their sleep to go about their daily activities. Stagnancy gives way to progress when light comes. Beloved, I pray for you that the light of God will shine on every aspect of your life. There shall be no stagnancy in your life, and throughout this year, you will only move forward and upwards, in Jesusโ€™ name.

Open Heavens 5 January 2026 Monday Commentary

Praise the Lord.

Our topic for today once more says let there be light. And today’s study makes us understand that where there is light there must be movement. There is progress. Where there is light there is no stagnation. When God said, “Let there be light,” he was making a spiritual declaration and it signified the end of chaos. When he said, “Let there be light,” he was signifying the end of sorrow and the beginning of order, the beginning of joy and progress in our lives. We all know that before light came, there was darkness and darkness represents confusion. Darkness represents sorrow. It represents stagnation. It represents helplessness. However, the moment light appeared, everything began to align with God’s purpose.

Today’s message is a divine assurance to us that any form of stagnation in our lives can end when the light of God shines. Hallelujah. Let there be light as God declared is a declaration of hope. Scripture makes us understand that sorrow may endure for the night, but it says joy comes in the morning. And I am sure you would agree with me that light often comes in the morning. There are certain kind of things that thrive in darkness. Sorrow, for example, thrives in darkness. Fear thrives in darkness. Confusion thrives in darkness. But joy, clarity, and peace, they flourish in light. That is why God’s first response to chaos was light. He said, “Let there be light.” Light is the antidote to every other thing we mentioned earlier. When the light of God shines, whatever it is that causes sorrow disappears. In today’s study, our father and the Lord also explains to us that darkness halts movement. You’d recall that he told us, for example, that a vehicle would hardly be able to move at night without functioning headlamps.

This tells us that when visibility is lost, progress becomes difficult and even dangerous sometimes. This is why you would see people stop moving when it is completely dark so that they don’t hurt themselves also in the process. Many people today are putting in so much effort into what they do but they are not making progress because they are operating without light. But the moment light is restored, movement resumes, direction becomes clear, confidence is restored. It is my prayer for us that this year the light of God would guide our steps so that our efforts would be very productive in the name of Jesus. In the story of the man who was by the beautiful gate which we see in today’s study, we learn that he was born lame. In other words, he had never walked and scripture refers to him as a man.

So, we can tell that he was not a child. He must have been well advanced in age. So, we can say that he had spent many years in that condition. He had literally spent his entire life in one spot. Every day for him looked like the previous one. The same place, same condition, same limitation. However, the day that light visited him through a divine encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ, stagnation ended instantly for him. This reveals to us that when the light of God shines, there is immediate rapid progress. Irrespective of how many years that person may have been in that condition, the light of God gives immediate liberation. We’re also made to understand from today’s study that light awakens dormant potential. That gift that God has given to you which is lying dormant in your life. Those forgotten dreams, he is able to reawaken and revive them. His light brings clarity. It takes away all forms of confusion. You would agree with me also that confusion often brings hesitation. Confusion creates fear. The fear of making wrong decisions.

So, when the light of God comes, it also takes away everything associated with confusion. You begin to walk with assurance and peace. We must also never forget that our Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate source of light. And wherever he is present, darkness cannot survive. Where our Lord Jesus Christ is welcomed, stagnation cannot persist there. When our Lord Jesus Christ is embraced, progress becomes inevitable. So beloved, this is a call to you today to allow our Lord Jesus Christ to illuminate every area of your life. Let him illuminate your decisions. Let him illuminate your relationships. Let him illuminate your plans and your pursuits this year.

When we give him room in our lives, he promises us that our journey would be steady and purposeful. He also wants our journey with him this year to be sustained. He wants it to be constant and consistent. You would recall that our father in the Lord gave the example of a car’s headlamp in today’s study that when it goes off, movement will come to a halt and the car would be stagnated until the headlamps are fixed. You would agree with me that as long as that car continues to move in darkness, every time the headlamp goes bad, it would need to be fixed for progress to continue. So, we can tell without doubt that that can truly hamper the speed of progress. Reasonable progress would therefore only be possible when there is constant and consistent light available. So beloved, maintain the light that God gives you this year. Make up your mind to be intentional about your relationship with God. No hide and seek, no on and off. Do not drift into spiritual negligence. Keep your lamp burning brightly and you will do exploits. Hallelujah.

I would like us at this point to bow our heads and ask the Lord today say, “Father, please let your light shine upon all areas of my life this year in Jesus’ name.” Tell the Lord today say, “Father, every area of my life that needs your light, let your light shine into it in the name of Jesus.” Whether it may be areas that I do not even know need your light. Say, “Father, show me mercy.” And let your light shine upon it, let it be lightened up. Let there be light over that situation, over that circumstance, over that area in the name of Jesus. Maybe there are specific areas you are trusting God to shine his light into this year in your life. Why not tell the Lord today? Say, “Father, in my finances, in my spiritual life, in my relationships, in my marriage, in my family, shine your light in the name of Jesus.” Also ask the Lord today, Lord, end every form of stagnation in my life in the name of Jesus.

Wherever it is that I may have spent a long time, whatever area of my life that I am supposed to have made more progress than I have made so far, say, “Father, help me. Let there be progress. Let stagnation seize. Let stagnation come to an end. And let there be accelerated progress to your glory in the name of Jesus. It is possible that you have even become too comfortable there like that man by the beautiful gate. It had become a source of receiving arms for him. Tell the Lord today, say, “Father, I refuse to be comfortable with any situation of stagnation in my life. I make progress this year in the name of Jesus.” Also ask the Lord today say, “Father, please replace sorrow with joy and confusion with clarity in the name of Jesus. Let every fruit of darkness and stagnation causing sorrow and confusion in my life today be replaced with joy and clarity in the name of Jesus. This year I walk with understanding. I know what to do. I know how to do it. I know when to do it.  I am led and instructed by the spirit of God in the name of Jesus. Also ask the Lord today say Lord awaken every dominant gift and destiny within me in the name of Jesus.

Tell the Lord today say father everything you have planted in me. Every potential you have placed within me. Father, begin to activate them in my life from today moving forward in the name of Jesus. Let every potential you have placed within me come alive. Let them begin to fulfil their purposes in the name of Jesus. Ask the Lord today also say, “Father, let me move forward and upward throughout this year in the name of Jesus. Let me know progress only. Let me know speed only. Let me enjoy acceleration only to your glory in the name of Jesus. By the end of the year, let me look back and take stocks of your faithfulness. Let me testify. Let me say see how far you have brought me in the name of Jesus. Begin to bless the name of the Lord and thank him for answers to prayers. Just worship him. Give him thanks. Father, we honor you. We adore you. We worship your holy name. Take all glory. Take all honor in Jesus’ name we have prayed. Amen.

Open Heavens 5 January 2026 Monday Hymn

Hymn 19: Rock Of Ages Cleft For Me

1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

let me hide myself in thee;

let the water and the blood,

from thy wounded side which flowed,

be of sin the double cure;

save from wrath and make me pure.

2 Not the labors of my hands

can fulfill thy law’s demands;

could my zeal no respite know,

could my tears forever flow,

all for sin could not atone;

thou must save, and thou alone.

3 Nothing in my hand I bring,

simply to the cross I cling;

naked, come to thee for dress;

helpless, look to thee for grace;

foul, I to the fountain fly;

wash me, Savior, or I die.

4 While I draw this fleeting breath,

when mine eyes shall close in death,

when I soar to worlds unknown,

see thee on thy judgment throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

let me hide myself in thee.
