MEMORISE: Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Isaiah 46:10

READ: Psalms 35:27-28 Open Heavens 9 December 2025

27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ephesians 4-6

MESSAGE:  – Open Heavens 9 December 2025 Tuesday Daily Devotional

Years ago, a vice-principal in a girls’ college in Benin, Southern Nigeria, decreed that anybody who mentioned the name of Jesus in the school would be dealt with. During that period, some of the girls in the college became born again after a university graduate undergoing the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps programme in the city preached to them. Because their vice-principal had said that nobody must mention the name of Jesus in the school, the girls always met secretly to pray and study the Bible.

One day, while having a Bible study session at night on the school field, the vice-principal walked in on them. He promised to expel them during the school assembly the next day because they had disobeyed his decree, and when he got home, he told his wife everything that had happened. Meanwhile, the girls ran to the Youth Corp member and told him what had happened. He turned to God and said, “Lord, if anyone is going to be punished, let it be me. Please, don’t let them be expelled.”

The following morning, the students and teachers of the school gathered for the school assembly session as usual. The girls were trembling as they waited for the vice-principal to come to the assembly ground and announce their expulsion from the college. The vice-principal’s wife was also expecting that he would soon march to the assembly ground to expel the girls. When she looked at the time and saw that he was running late, she decided to knock on the door of his bedroom to wake him up so he could go for the assembly session before it ended. She knocked repeatedly, but he didn’t answer – God had taken his life overnight.

When a fellow decides to oppose God’s agenda, he or she might be crushed because God always goes out of His way to support His righteous cause. It is a dangerous thing to stand against what God supports because He is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). He will consume anything and anyone who opposes His counsel. Ephesians 1:11 says: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Beloved, the easiest way to get God’s support and to continue enjoying it is to walk in obedience to His will at all times. Ensure that you align yourself with His agenda so that you will not find yourself face-to-face with His wrath.

Prayer Point – Open Heavens 9 December 2025

Father, please help me to obey You and align with Your will at all times, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heavens 9 December 2025 Tuesday Hymn

Hymn 27: What A Friend We Have in Jesus

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,

all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

all because we do not carry

everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

Can we find a friend so faithful

who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden,

cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge–

take it to the Lord in prayer!

Do your friends despise, forsake you?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In his arms he’ll take and shield you;

you will find a solace there.

Open Heavens 9 December 2025 Tuesday Commentary

Praise the Lord.

Our topic for today once more is obedience and God’s support. Yesterday we saw a similar topic, sin and God’s support. And in that study, we are made to understand the consequences of sin. How it separates a man from God and makes a man who was once God’s friend to become his enemy. We saw, for example, in scripture how a little town named Ai was able to fight and cause great havoc to the children of Israel because the children of Israel had sin in their midst. We saw from that study that sin takes away God’s support from an individual. We learned from that study that even when you are doing the will of God and he promises you his support, the moment you give in to sin, he would withdraw his support.

Today, as we study the topic obedience and God’s support, we are made to understand from today’s study that it is a dangerous thing to stand against anything that God support. We are made to understand from today’s study that God is loving. He’s patient. He is merciful and full of compassion. But he is also a consuming fire. When a person deliberately opposes his agenda or fights those who carry out his will, such an individual positions himself against God Almighty. As children of God, we must never stand on the opposite side of his purpose. Instead, he desires that we should align fully with his will. God wants us to walk in obedience. He wants us to position ourselves where his support becomes constant to us. So, today’s message is one that helps us to understand the seriousness of aligning ourselves with God’s plan and the dangers of standing against it. We see in today’s study that standing against God’s purpose invites judgment.

In the story which our father and the lord tells us in today’s study, we see how judgment came for that vice principle. When we search through scriptures also, you would find the story of Pharaoh. When God commanded him to release his people, Pharaoh resisted. He fought and hardened his heart repeatedly. Each stubborn decision of Pharaoh brought destruction to his nation. Well, eventually the Red Sea swallowed his army. In the same way, anyone who knowingly resists the move of God places himself in a dangerous position. God may warn, he may show mercy, he may give time for repentance, but if rebellion continues, then his judgment will follow. So beloved, never allow your decisions, your actions, or your attitudes to place you in conflict with God’s purpose. Hallelujah.

Another thing we learned from today’s study is that God always defends his righteous cause. God never abandons his people when they stand for righteousness. Whenever his children are walking in alignment with his plan, he rises to defend them. No earthly opposition can stop what God has endorsed. Just like the story our father in the Lord tells us in today’s study, we see God rising up for those children. In scripture also we can see the same thing happening in the case of Daniel when wicked men conspired against him and tricked the king to signing a law that targeted Daniel’s prayer life. Those men were intentionally standing against God’s agenda. But God defended his servant. He shot the mouth of lions. Hallelujah. How about Shedrach, Meshach, and Abednego? They were thrown into the fire, but God stood right there with them. Hallelujah. God always honors those who honor him. When a believer stands for righteousness, heaven stands with him. When you align yourself with God’s will, his presence becomes your security. It becomes your divine assurance. Hallelujah.

So, we admonished in today’s study to never be afraid to stand for God. When we do so, we enjoy heaven’s backing. I would also like us as believers today to examine our lives. Is there any way that we are resisting anything that God supports? Are our words, our actions or our attitudes hindering any divine assignment? Do a proper self search. We also see from today’s study the importance of aligning ourselves with God’s agenda and remaining there. This is because alignment with God’s will is not a one-time decision. It is a continuous posture. We must daily submit our will, our choices, our plans, and our desires to him. The moment a believer shifts away from God’s agenda, that believer becomes vulnerable. See Jonah for example. God instructed him to carry out an assignment, but he had his own plans. We all know what happened eventually. Life becomes complicated whenever we run in the opposite direction of God’s purpose. But life becomes peaceful. It becomes meaningful and fruitful when we walk in agreement with him.

So beloved, if God has asked you to do something, obey him promptly. Ensure also that you are in no way standing against the fulfilment of his will. Obedience is the foundation for sustaining God’s support and aligning to his agenda guarantees safety, victory, and divine backing. It is my prayer for us today that the Lord would keep us aligned to his will. May his hand rest upon us continually and may his support never depart from our lives in Jesus’ name. I would like us at this point to bow our heads and appreciate the Lord for his word to us today. Say, “Father, we are grateful. Thank you for ministering to us. Thank you for speaking to us. Thank you for teaching us. Thank you for counseling us. Lord, we are grateful.” Receive our thanks, dear Lord, in the name of Jesus. Now ask the Lord today say father please help me to obey you and align with your will at all times in Jesus name. Help me to always align with your purpose for my life in the name of Jesus. Ask the Lord today say father please help me that your own desires would be my priority at all times in the name of Jesus. Let me love what you love. Let me want what you want. Let my will, my purpose, my desires be aligned to yours always in the name of Jesus.

Also ask the Lord today. Say, “Father, please deliver me from any attitude or decision that opposes your will in the name of Jesus.” Ask the Lord for whatever it is in our lives that makes us oppose his will. Is it a plan that we have? Is it an ambition? Whatever it is that is not in line with his own purpose for our lives, say, “Father, please help us out of it in the name of Jesus. Deliver us from anything that takes us out of your will in the name of Jesus.” Ask the Holy Spirit today. Say, “Holy Spirit, give me wisdom to discern what you support and to stand with it boldly in the name of Jesus.” Ask him for clarity. Ask him for the spirit of discernment to discern what he is saying at all times that we will always hear his choice and his decisions and align ourselves with his will at all times in the name of Jesus. Even when we may not understand, ask the Lord today for the grace to trust and to stand by his own choice boldly in the name of Jesus.

Also ask the Lord today, say, “Father, in any way I may have shifted from alignment to your will, please realign me today in Jesus’ name.” Ask the Lord today, say, “Father, let your mercy find me. Let your mercy locate me and let me be realigned to your purpose and your will for my life in the name of Jesus. any decisions, any choices I may have made in the past out of arrogance, out of stubbornness, whatever the situation may have been, Lord, I ask that you would have mercy today. Let your mercy locate me and realign me to your will and your purpose for my life in the name of Jesus. Next, ask the Lord today. Say, Lord, let your counsel prevail in my life and make me a vessel that honors you always in the name of Jesus. Father, we ask today that you would cause your counsel to prevail in our lives. Let your counsel alone. Let your will alone prevail in our lives in the name of Jesus. And let us be transformed into vessels, oh Lord, that bring you honor at all times in the name of Jesus. Vessels fit for your use, vessels that bring you glory, vessels of honor. That is who we are and that is who we will continue to be in the name of Jesus. begin to bless the name of the Lord and thank him for answers to prayers. Worship him and give him thanks. Father, we honor you. We are grateful. Receive our thanks, dear Lord. In Jesus’ name we have prayed. Amen.
